I’d also leave more free time in my itinerary to simply explore.

Some of our best memories came from walking through the colourful streets of Fontainhas, discovering quiet beaches, stopping at local cafés and driving through Goa without following a fixed schedule. Those experiences cost very little but became the highlights of our trip.

Many small rental operators provide vehicles without proper documentation or clear agreements. Some tourists have reported being blamed for minor scratches or mechanical issues that were already present on the vehicle before rental.

To avoid such situations, tourists should always inspect the vehicle thoroughly before accepting it. Taking photos or videos of the car from multiple angles can help document its condition.

It is also important to confirm the insurance coverage and ensure that the vehicle has valid registration documents.

Reputable rental companies generally maintain better vehicles and provide clear contracts. Checking online reviews before choosing a rental service can make a significant difference. One of the best ways is to book through the hotel (if the hotel is a premium one) where one stays.

Another important point is to avoid renting vehicles through random online agents. While the price may appear attractive, the lack of accountability can lead to unnecessary disputes later.

They are just a middlemen that connect localites who owns these cars. In other words, these are sub contracts. And the localites hardly care about professionalism and try to charge customer overtly including for those pre-existing damages in the car.

The most striking aspect of many Goa travel packages is the gap between the advertised price and the actual value delivered.

In one example, a four day Goa trip package cost around thirty two thousand rupees. This package included airport transfers, an evening dinner cruise and the island adventure tour.

However, after experiencing the actual quality of the services provided, it became clear that the combined value of those activities was far lower.

Interestingly, other tourists who joined the same cruise and island tour but had booked the activities independently had spent less than eight thousand rupees for the exact same experience.

This means that the travel package added significant markup without providing any additional quality or benefit.

For tourists who carefully plan their itinerary and book activities individually, the same trip could easily be completed at a much lower cost while choosing better service providers.

They get a commission from these companies for getting listed and for booking through their website. One will get far better experience and 3 times cost-effective, if one can do their custom planning without going thorough such middlemen websites.

TOURSIT OPERATOR TO AVOID: The Journey Travels, Malviya Nagar, New Delhi. This tourist operator (who had tie up with Travel Triangle) gave us a terrible experience. They had no clue of what is happening on the ground. Right from the cab driver to cruise and island boat rides were arranged by this operator. They charged us a INR 32000 for sub-standard services. If we had planed our own itinerary, we could have had a far better experience for less than INR 21000.
